Arthur William Vanaman (b. May 9, 1892, Millville, N.J.-d. Sept. 14, 1987), Major General in the U.S. Air Force, was commissioned in the Signal Corps in 1917 after graduating from college. He served as air attaché in Berlin from 1937 to 1941, then commanded the Army Air Force Materiel Center and Air Service Commands in Oklahoma and Texas. James Harold "Jimmy" Doolittle (December 14, 1896 – September 27, 1993) was an American military general and aviation pioneer who received the Medal of Honor for his daring raids on Japan during World War II. He also made early coast-to-coast flights, won many flying races, and helped develop instrument flying.
